Honor Scientists as National Heroes-科学家应受到国家的尊重
It is natural that young people love movie stars or popular singers.
However, great scientists and inventors also deserve our respect as national heroes.
We often feel embarrassed if foreigners ask us why vulgar singers or actors are so popular in China, but we are more embarrassed when most of our teenagers are ignorant of Chinese great scientists. In the past, Chinese did not traditionally respect scientists: nowadays,we seem to get used to the idea that scientists should have a tough life, otherwise they would be spoiled. In fact,most Chinese scientists are having a hard time. They are working with low pay, with many difficulties and much frustrations, but without enough research funds or proper social respect. As a result, many young scientists quit their jobs.
There are lots of things we can do to change the situation. For exampie, if billions of dollars are wasted every year in feasting and luxurious cars, why can not we manage to cut the waste just a little to support our scientists? One has to realize that science and technology are a driving force but corruption will ruin our country.
There is an urgent need to honor our own outstanding scientists as national heroes, who can help China become a better educated nation. We must do it right now, because China needs their service more desperately than ever before. |
